NEWS - Announcing Here For 2026 - God Save Us (Codex Theatre)
Tues Oct 6th – Sat Oct 10th Written & Directed by Esalan Gates Press Night: Wednesday 7th October | 7.30pm A medieval village prepares to perform a morality play. The Church has encouraged it: a good use of their energies, a demonstration of piety, and, unbeknownst to the public, a useful distraction from while they do some shady dealings. The village rehearses with real devotion: the singing is beautiful, the costumes are earnest, the theology is sincere. They believe in what they're doing. Upstage, behind a door that is never quite closed, the men of the Church are deciding what to do with the village's money. 'God save Us' runs two plays simultaneously. In one, ordinary people enact the drama of salvation. In the other, a small group of powerful men conduct a closed-door negotiation about tithes, debts, and institutional survival that will determine the villagers' material lives. The villagers never get to be in that room until a mistake is made, and all hell breaks loose. The piece draws a direct structural parallel between the mystery play tradition and the mystification of modern economic decision-making: both systems promise meaning and order; both reserve real power for the initiated. The choral singing (initially earnest & communal) becomes increasingly comic as it strains against the reality it's decorating. Funny, formally bold, and genuinely angry. Codex Theatre has demonstrated real appetite for this work: Pop Goes the Dollar (2025) attracted strong critical attention and a sellout audience hungry for theatre that treats economics as dramatic material. This is the logical, more ambitious next step.

Big songs. Big feelings. Big entrances. The kind of love that comes with a key change, a confetti cannon and absolutely no sense of self-awareness. He believes love is probably somewhere else. Somewhere warmer. Somewhere louder. Somewhere with better lighting. Edith Piaf. Strobe lights. Strangers. Perfect nights. Bad decisions. The one that got away. The one that might still be out there. He believes in loving everyone to bits and throwing it all in the air for the world to see. Most of all, he believes in looking the truth right in the eye and running away. Because love should be extraordinary, shouldn’t it? It should be cinematic. Transcendent. Life-changing. It should feel like dancing in the moonlight with the whole world falling away. But what if it isn’t? What if it’s been somewhere much closer all along? And somewhere there’s a big red phone that won’t stop ringing. Associate Artists 2020 - CHEWBOY PRODUCTIONS
ChewBoy Productions is a multi-arts production company specialising in theatre, film, digital and working with emerging artists. We create surrealist work which gives you something to chew on long after you’ve experienced it; with each project being unique in utilising the skills of creatives from different backgrounds and specialities. Founders Georgie Bailey and Hal Darling began making bits and bobs of work for fun for Fringes before eventually turning into a partnership in 2018. Since setting up, we’ve been pretty busy in producing two short film trilogies as well as touring our ‘Best of Brighton Fringe Theatre Award’ winning, madcap play EUAN to several corners of the UK from Kingston to the Isle of Wight. Associate Artists 2020 - FANTASTIC GARLANDS
Fantastic Garlands was founded by Suzy Catliff and Olivia Thompson and creates new exciting shows with women’s stories at the heart of all their work. Using a combination of theatre, music and film, the company creates bold, anarchic shows with a strong comedic leaning.
The company was, fittingly, set up on a Mother’s Day, and so far has produced both devised and scripted new work, that has been seen at the Lion and Unicorn, Pleasance Studio and the Old Red Lion Theatre.
The next twelve months will see the company performing at the Brighton fringe, developing new projects whilst continuing to work towards the premiere of their latest work, a folk punk musical.

Associate Artists 2020 - FIGHT OR FLIGHT PRODUCTIONS
Fight or Flight Productions like to play pretend. We make believe, and we tell stories. We believe in fear, and fairytales; unleashing our demons and dream worlds onto the stage.
Founded in Brighton in 2012, Fight or Flight Productions began over a cup of coffee with the aim to create thought provocative, and sensually gripping theatre by exploring the dark spaces of the mind - stepping into the black, confronting the scary, reflecting the uncomfortable, and making it home.
Inspired by the instinctual desires to question and play, we embrace relinquishing control to fear, and battling convention through performance. Previous work includes "Lemons, Lemons, Lemons, Lemons, Lemons" by Sam Steiner & "Like You Hate Me" by TE Lodge, which made its debut at the Lion & Unicorn Theatre in 2019.

Associate Artists 2020 - HiddenViewz
HiddenViewz, are a collective of creatives from the global majority with a burning passion for social change. We aim to bring different perspectives to the arts and provide a platform for those who are often overlooked in society; these stories are introduced through theatre, film, music and photography. We aspire to push the limiting boundaries that Western Theatre creates by altering the way the audience experiences a show. Our shows are heavily immersive with a focus on movement and music. Our work explores surrealist theatre techniques amplified in a realistic setting. The company was formed in 2017 by Andrea Lungay, Rachel Mervis and Crawford Kalu. Since the founding, we opened a creative hub in North London to create the opportunity for other like-minded people to explore their own creative journeys. Within this new space, we produce original music in our recording studio and work tirelessly in our creative studios to provide the best experiences for our audiences and guests alike. Some of our previous work have been produced at notable venues in London such as Lion and Unicorn Theatre, The Cockpit Theatre and The Barbican as well as The Edinburgh Fringe Festival & The Ventnor Fringe in the Isle of Wight. Hideout Theatre was founded in 2021 by a group of students training at Guildford School of Acting. Formed at the height of the pandemic, Hideout was born at a time of creative and interpersonal restriction. This instilled in us a desire and a need to push against these constraints and tell stories brimming with ambition and scope. Built on collaboration, playfulness and risk-taking, Hideout works primarily with new writing and bold ideas. With ensemble at its core, Hideout aims to challenge what's expected in modern theatre, and to show that even the most universal truths and ideas can be explored in ways that invite mayhem and wonder. Associate Artists 2020 - TINY THEATRE COMPANY
Tiny Theatre Company is a female-led company founded in 2018 by two (tiny) actors, Alex Brailsford and Olivia Roebuck. We are passionate about creating opportunities for emerging actors, playwrights, and creatives. We have produced various scratch-nights at prestigious London venues such as the Lion and Unicorn Theatre, The Kings Head Theatre and Theatre N16. We work closely with our creatives to develop as artists and produce exciting work which is current, comedic and relatable. Our most recent project, critically acclaimed 2-woman play, “Sixty-Seven” premiered at the Lion and Unicorn in December 2021 for 4 nights. It went on to run a further 5 nights in June 2022 to rave reviews. We are thrilled to be Associate Artists of the Lion and Unicorn Theatre (London’s best fringe venue) among other talented theatre companies and creatives and feel very lucky to be part of such a supportive community. Tues Oct 6th – Sat Oct 10th Written & Directed by Esalan Gates Press Night: Wednesday 7th October | 7.30pm A medieval village prepares to perform a morality play. The Church has encouraged it: a good use of their energies, a demonstration of piety, and, unbeknownst to the public, a useful distraction from while they do some shady dealings. The village rehearses with real devotion: the singing is beautiful, the costumes are earnest, the theology is sincere. They believe in what they're doing. Upstage, behind a door that is never quite closed, the men of the Church are deciding what to do with the village's money. 'God save Us' runs two plays simultaneously. In one, ordinary people enact the drama of salvation. In the other, a small group of powerful men conduct a closed-door negotiation about tithes, debts, and institutional survival that will determine the villagers' material lives. The villagers never get to be in that room until a mistake is made, and all hell breaks loose. The piece draws a direct structural parallel between the mystery play tradition and the mystification of modern economic decision-making: both systems promise meaning and order; both reserve real power for the initiated. The choral singing (initially earnest & communal) becomes increasingly comic as it strains against the reality it's decorating. Funny, formally bold, and genuinely angry. Codex Theatre has demonstrated real appetite for this work: Pop Goes the Dollar (2025) attracted strong critical attention and a sellout audience hungry for theatre that treats economics as dramatic material. This is the logical, more ambitious next step.

GOD SAVE US Codex Theatre Tues Oct 6th – Sat Oct 10th Written & Directed by Esalan Gates Press Night: Wednesday 7th October | 7.30pm A medieval village prepares to perform a morality play. The Church has encouraged it: a good use of their energies, a demonstration of piety, and, unbeknownst to the public, a useful distraction from while they do some shady dealings. The village rehearses with real devotion: the singing is beautiful, the costumes are earnest, the theology is sincere. They believe in what they're doing. Upstage, behind a door that is never quite closed, the men of the Church are deciding what to do with the village's money. 'Everyman is Broke' runs two plays simultaneously. In one, ordinary people enact the drama of salvation. In the other, a small group of powerful men conduct a closed-door negotiation about tithes, debts, and institutional survival that will determine the villagers' material lives. The villagers never get to be in that room until a mistake is made, and all hell breaks loose. The piece draws a direct structural parallel between the mystery play tradition and the mystification of modern economic decision-making: both systems promise meaning and order; both reserve real power for the initiated. The choral singing (initially earnest & communal) becomes increasingly comic as it strains against the reality it's decorating. Funny, formally bold, and genuinely angry. Codex Theatre has demonstrated real appetite for this work: Pop Goes the Dollar (2025) attracted strong critical attention and a sellout audience hungry for theatre that treats economics as dramatic material. This is the logical, more ambitious next step.

Big songs. Big feelings. Big entrances. The kind of love that comes with a key change, a confetti cannon and absolutely no sense of self-awareness. He believes love is probably somewhere else. Somewhere warmer. Somewhere louder. Somewhere with better lighting. Edith Piaf. Strobe lights. Strangers. Perfect nights. Bad decisions. The one that got away. The one that might still be out there. Because love should be extraordinary, shouldn’t it? It should be cinematic. Transcendent. Life-changing. It should feel like dancing in the moonlight with the whole world falling away. Part party, part confession, part love letter to all of life’s best bits, Big Love is a funny, generous and quietly devastating new piece of fringe theatre about chasing extraordinary moments, the people we love to bits, and finally having to answer a call that won’t go away. And that’s a lot of love to cram into one little theatre in Kentish Town. Written and directed by David Brady and produced by the critically-acclaimed, award-winning team behind Feel, At Last, Lately and Flashbang, Big Love crash-lands into the Lion & Unicorn Theatre for a two-week run as part of the Here | For Season of new work this October.
